Throughout the weekend prior to 9/11/2017, the Toledo community helped create a 250-pound bronze bell to honor 9/11 first responders. The custom bell was unveiled, dedicated, and rung for the first time on Monday, September 11. The bell was cast onsite using the world’s only mobile bell foundry and is now a permanent fixture of the Toledo Memorial Park’s 9/11 First Responders Last Call Memorial, located in Sylvania, Ohio. The bell completes the 9/11 memorial, which includes an 18-foot, 13,000-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center.
“It’s the perfect way to honor first responders,” said Sylvania Township fire Chief Michael Ramm. “We think it’s going to be awesome to have the bell here because it truly is a symbol of first responders and firefighters —both to call them to an incident and to call them to their last call,” added Chief Ramm.
